๐Ÿ“Œ TOP STORY

Morgan Stanley plants its flag in "the tokenized world." Speaking on the bank's Q1 2026 earnings call, CFO Sharon Yeshaya framed on-chain finance as a core pillar of its multi-trillion-dollar wealth management platform โ€” not a side experiment. "How do you think of a tokenized world? How do you think of an on-chain world where you can move assets quickly, the same way you'd be able to move those liabilities quickly?" she said, pointing to a future where client portfolios, lending and cash management all run on digital rails. The bank recently launched a digital asset pilot via Zero Hash for select E*Trade clients and appointed Amy Oldenburg as head of digital assets earlier this year. CoinDesk, Apr 15

๐Ÿฆ COMPANY MOVES

  • JPMorgan / Jamie Dimon โ€” In his annual shareholder letter, Dimon warned that "a whole new set of competitors is emerging based on blockchain" and called on the bank to "roll out our own blockchain technology" faster. JPMorgan's Kinexys (formerly Onyx) runs JPM Coin and a suite of tokenized-collateral products. The urgency is notable given JPMorgan's already years-ahead infrastructure position. CoinDesk, Apr 6
  • Securitize โ€” Named former SEC Division of Trading and Markets director Brett Redfearn as president and board member ahead of its planned public listing via a business combination with Cantor Equity Partners II. Redfearn previously led capital markets at Coinbase and advised exchanges at Panorama Financial Markets Advisory. The hire signals Securitize is hardening its regulatory credibility as it targets institutional issuers. CoinDesk, Apr 9
  • Pharos Network โ€” Raised $44 million in Series A funding at a $1 billion valuation. Backers include Sumitomo Corporation's venture arm, Chainlink, Flow Traders and SNZ Holding. The "asset-native" L1 targets regulated financial activity at scale, with compliance features and parallel processing for institutional throughput. Mainnet launch is imminent. RWA onchain totals have grown from $14B to $24.3B since January 2026. CoinDesk, Apr 8
  • BlackRock, Franklin Templeton & Fidelity โ€” RedStone's Tokenization & RWA Standards Report 2026 (published March 26) highlighted all three as having moved from pilot to live product โ€” Treasury funds and private credit strategies now actively distributed on-chain. Compliance architecture โ€” not the token itself โ€” is now the primary design challenge separating serious issuers from pretenders. CoinDesk, Apr 16

โš–๏ธ REGULATORY WATCH

IMF flags systemic risk in tokenized finance. A new IMF note warned that atomic settlement, while reducing counterparty risk, compresses the time available for discretionary intervention during stress events. Automated smart contracts that trigger margin calls or liquidations could accelerate selloffs โ€” a dynamic already seen in DeFi flash crashes. The Fund also flagged cross-border capital flight risk as tokenized assets move instantly across jurisdictions, complicating AML and sanctions enforcement. It called for clearer legal frameworks for finality recognition and stronger global supervisory coordination. "Ensuring stability requires that tokenized asset management remains anchored in safe settlement assets, legally recognized finality, and robust governance arrangements," the report reads. ๐Ÿ” WORTH WATCHING

Tokenized perpetuals: the next frontier. Tokenized perpetual swaps hit $31 billion in weekly volume during the week of April 9, driven by commodities volatility โ€” oil trading alone reached $6.9B as geopolitical tensions flared. Tokenized stock perpetuals grew 908% to roughly $4.9B in weekly volume. This is a different animal from buy-and-hold tokenized Treasuries: it's 24/7 synthetic exposure to traditional asset classes, settling on-chain with no prime broker in the middle. As institutions grow comfortable with tokenized collateral, on-chain perpetuals could quietly become one of the highest-volume RWA categories โ€” well ahead of the narratives currently dominating the space.
